Free Cantonese programs for kids in Metro Vancouver 大溫哥華免費兒童廣東話活動

You don't have to spend money to get your kids hearing Cantonese every week. Libraries, neighbourhood houses and family nonprofits across Metro Vancouver run free storytimes and drop-ins, mostly for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Some are run in Cantonese. Others mix Cantonese with Mandarin and English, and each listing says which. Most are drop-in and a few ask you to register. Library storytimes don't run every week, so check the date before you go. The two South Vancouver Neighbourhood House playtimes are free with an SVNH membership. We checked every listing below by hand, and each one shows the date we last checked it.

FAQ 常見問題

Are these really free?

Yes. None of the ten charges a program fee. The two South Vancouver Neighbourhood House playtimes need an SVNH membership, so ask SVNH what that costs.

Which ones are run in Cantonese?

Not many. Most free programs we've found are for ages 0–6, and New West's storytime is for all ages. For school-age kids, some of the lowest fees on our map are Bethel Chinese School in Vancouver ($260 a term) and True Light Chinese School ($310 per half year).
