If you want your kids to read the same characters used in Hong Kong, check which script a school teaches before you sign up. Many Chinese schools here are Mandarin-first and teach simplified characters. Based on their own pages, these 14 Cantonese programs teach traditional characters. They include five Pui Ying Chinese schools in Vancouver, Burnaby and Richmond, True Light in Richmond and on Cambie Street, the Chinese Cultural Centre's school, CUE, Fun Cantonese Basic and Cantonese Square in Surrey. Most other programs on CantoMap don't say which script they use, and that doesn't mean they don't teach traditional. Ask them, and tell us.

Why does the script matter?
Hong Kong and Taiwan use traditional characters; mainland China and Singapore use simplified. Hong Kong's Education Bureau publishes its primary-school word list in traditional characters. See our traditional vs simplified guide for more.
Do any of these teach Jyutping?
None of these 14 say so. If you know one that does, tell us.
My child's school isn't on this list.
It may still teach traditional characters. Most schools don't say on their websites. Use "Suggest a correction" on the school's listing, and we'll check it and add it.
